After FOX announced that Tom Mison's Ichabod Crane will not be part of the 2016 San Diego Comic Con, there have been speculations claiming that the unexpected exit of Nicole Beharie's character in "Sleepy Hollow" season 4 caused the show's absence in the upcoming entertainment convention.

Several reports claim that the people behind the show are avoiding Comic Con this year because of the backlash that "Sleepy Hollow" received when Beharie's character Abbie Mills was killed off at the end of season 3.

A lot of fans were disappointed when they found out that the female lead star of the show will no longer be a part of the series. But it was later on confirmed that the actress was the one who decided to quit the show after three seasons.

However, Mison admitted that he understood why the fans were not happy with the development of the show when he appeared at the London MCM Comic Con late in May.

"When you have a woman of color in the lead role, it's not just a woman of color in the lead role. It immediately means so much more than that across the whole of America. There's a woman of color in a position that not very long ago she wouldn't have been," the actor said as reported by E! News. "It comes to symbolize so much more. So when something like this happens, when they kill off said character, of course it's going to mean an awful lot more, consequently."

Missing the 2016 Comic Con will not help the show reach out to their disappointed audience, a report from CarterMatt said. According to the publication, the convention would be a perfect venue for "Sleepy Hollow" to explain why fans should hold on to the show, and reveal their plans to make the story more interesting despite the departure of a very important character.

The fourth season of "Sleepy Hollow" will premiere on FOX during its midseason schedule.
