'Sleepy Hollow' season 4 spoilers: renewal permitting, next season's plot would focus on other Witnesses

"Sleepy Hollow" season 3 just ended with a shocking finale event, seeing the death of Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie). However, in a report from TVLine, it is indicated that the studios do have plans for season 4 and this may primarily involve Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) looking for other Witnesses and investigating the Organization.

According to showrunner Clifton Campbell, there may be another Witness of the Apocalypse out in the world and this was hinted at by Abbie right before she passed on to the afterlife. It is then explained that season 4, should Fox decide to renew the show, will spend a few episodes looking for this new Witness.

"That's our way in to a season 4 that looks forward to the different understanding about what being a Witness is all about," Campbell explained. "The organization... is something we're exploring should we be fortunate enough to have a season 4."

Campbell continued to explain that Abbie Mills's role in the story was all about introducing Crane into the new century and the audience to what a Witness was and what their primary duties were. Once those objectives had been complete it was time to let go of Abbie and now they will introduce a new Witness with a different set of goals.

The showrunner also confirmed that the character is indeed dead and will not be revived in future seasons. However, this does not rule out the possibility of Abbie returning as a spirit or in a flashback of some sort.

According to Vine Report, there is a very high chance of all these plans coming to fruition as "Sleepy Hollow" is very likely to be renewed for a fourth season. This is due to the fact that "American Idol" is finally ending and the network may renew "Sleepy Hollow" just to keep the timeslot occupied until a new series can be inserted.
