'Sleepy Hollow' season 4 spoilers, cast: FOX president divulges on show's renewal post-Abbie Mills

Tom Mison's Ichabod Crane will meet a bunch of new people in "Sleepy Hollow" season 4.FOX

To some, the "Sleepy Hollow" season 4 came as a shock and a mystery following the exit of female lead Nicole Beharie, whose character Abbie Mills was killed off last season.

Fox entertainment president David Madden spoke about the renewal at the Television Critics Association or TCA (via Deadline), emphasizing that it was "obviously a very hard conversation."

"Crane (Tom Mison) and Abbie were the spine of the show in a lot of ways, so it was difficult to figure out if it was the right thing to do, to continue or not. But the producers pitched us an array of new characters and new situations for Crane to get into," he explained.

Indeed, "Sleepy Hollow" season 4 has been making headlines for its casting additions. Just recently, three more stars were added to the ensemble.

"Empire" star Jerry MacKinnon was tapped to play the role of an "endearingly eager but slightly obsessive research analyst" named Jake Wells.

Jake's passion for the supernatural drives him to continue his work even though what he does and where he works have basically been "forgotten."

Through this, he will have a great mentor and friend in Crane come "Sleepy Hollow" season 4. Jake works with Alex Norwood, another newcomer to be played by "Days of our Lives" star Rachel Melvin.

The character – a "self-taught engineering prodigy – is gifted with improvisation of weapons and gadgets and the ability to "break down the most complex problems to its simplest components."

As wide as her knowledge in artifacts and machines, the little the new "Sleepy Hollow" season 4 character's tendency is to trust people. Alex's loyalty is to be hardly earned and will be worth the shot.

Last but not the least, "Sleepy Hollow" season 4 will introduce Molly, the daughter of Crane's new partner Diana (Janina Gavankar).

Former "Masterchef Junior" contestant Oona Yaffe will bring her to life in the new season of "Sleepy Hollow." Molly is described as both creative and athletic.

She has "maturity beyond her years" and is an "explorer at heart," something that makes her instantly click with Crane.

With all these new characters and with Crane headed to Washington, Madden hopes that fans will love "Sleepy Hollow" season 4, which premieres sometime next year on FOX.
