"Sleepy Hollow" season 3 ended with the sudden death of Ichabod Crane's (Tom Mison) partner, Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie). Season 4 will see Ichabod head over to Washington D.C. where he will meet a new partner, and a report from TVLine reveals that "True Blood" star Janina Gavankar has been cast for the role.

She will be playing Diana, a single mom who is also a former military officer. She is currently working as a Special Agent for Homeland Security and she initially does not believe in the supernatural, an aspect of her which will cause some conflict with Crane.

Diana is described to have a tough personality with a wry sense of humor and she only softens up around her daughter. However, Diana rarely talks about her daughter's father, although this is where she and Crane will see eye-to-eye as they both understand the feeling of losing someone.

They will also differ in their approach to missions. The official character description states "while he's methodical and research-focused, she's active and task-oriented, which is reflective of her military training."

Her full backstory and her connections with the supernatural will be explored throughout season 4. She will be stepping in as the new pair of eyes for Ichabod, helping him adjust to the modern world. This role was previously filled in by his old partner Abbie Mills.

The report notes that her inclusion is part of the network's decision to revamp the series. Along with the loss of Nicole Beharie the series is also not going to bring back Lance Gross and Jessica Camacho. It is also relocating and will now be set in Washington D.C. in an attempt to give the series a fresh new coat without having to reboot the show.

"Sleepy Hollow" season 4 will premiere on Fox in early 2017, although a more specific release date has yet to be announced.
