'The Huntsman: Winter's War' promo material revealed

Universal Pictures

The first glimpse of the follow up to 2012's dark fantasy film "Snow White and the Huntsman" is finally here, but the movie now comes with a new title.

The upcoming film will now be called "The Huntsman: Winter's War," and it will now focus on the story of the relationship between the evil Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) and the huntsman Eric (Chris Hemsworth).

The spinoff will no longer feature Kirsten Stewart's character Snow White and will now be directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan instead of Rupert Sanders. This was after Dunst and the original director were involved in a cheating scandal that became controversial in 2012. However, Queen Ravenna and Eric will be joined by the Ice Queen Freya (Emily Blunt) and the warrior named Sara (Jessica Chastain).

In this film, the evil Ice Queen Freya experiences a heartbreaking betrayal from two of her most trusted huntsmen Eric and Sara, after the two broke her one and only rule: Never fall in love. This happens long before her sister Ravenna hires Eric to kill Snow White.

Fast forward to the events after "Snow White and the Huntsman," Freya learns about her sister's fate and orders her soldiers to bring Ravenna's Magic Mirror to her since she is the only one who can use its powers. But after learning that she can bring Ravenna back from the grave, she resurrects her sister and the two plot to spread more terror in the enchanted land to showcase their combined dark powers.

Together, Ravenna and Freya's powers are hard to beat, unless Eric and Sara find their way back to each other and fight the evil sisters to restore peace and order in the land.

Aside from the announcement of the new title, Universal Pictures also released four new character posters showing Queen Ravena, the Ice Queen Freya, Eric, and Sara, as well as a teaser for the upcoming trailer that is set to be released this week.

"The Huntsman: Winter's War" is slated to premiere in the U.S. on April 22, 2016.
