Writer and director Kurt Sutter recently canceled his own show, "The Bastard Executioner," due to low viewer ratings and numerous criticisms. However, his two planned projects related to the popular series "Sons of Anarchy" are still moving forward. Speaking to Deadline a while back, Sutter revealed the prequel wouldn't be a movie.

Instead, he explained that it would also be a series comprised of roughly 10 to 12 episodes. It would also be set several decades prior to the main series, set during the Vietnam War. Instead of focusing on Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam), it will focus on Jax's father and the beginning of their motorcycle club.

"We begin in Nam and see John Teller and Piney and see how that relationship got created, and bring them back to the States and the obvious external dynamics that were going on with the country and the perception of the war and what an odd kind of perception these vets got when they returned home," Sutter explained.

He continued to explain that the show would show the formation of the club and end just before the beginning of the story gets close to the established lore and setting in the main "Sons of Anarchy" series. 

This may imply that the prequel series will feature several time jumps, going from the Vietnam War and then move forward through the ages until the narrative reaches a point that can connect the prequel and the main series together. It may even end up showing an adult Jax the way he was just before the main series pilot.

When asked about the spin-off, which focuses on the Mayan Club that sometimes worked alongside and other times against Jax and his motorcycle club, Sutter stated that it would be a contemporary show set in the modern day. It is heavily speculated that it may even be set parallel to some of the "Sons of Anarchy" seasons.
