What should gamers look forward to in the upcoming Gamescom in August?

As early as now, various game companies are already announcing their plans for the upcoming annual trade fair for video games, considered to be the largest gaming event in the world.

Unlike in the past years wherein Sony Computer Entertainment held a press conference for their game console PlayStation during the annual Gamescom event in Cologne, Germany, the Japanese gaming company announced that they will not host a presentation this time around. According to the statement released by the company through GameSpot, they will have to hold off the announcement for all their biggest news until the later part of the year since they are planning to host an international media briefing during the Paris Games in October.

"We're delighted to announce that we will be hosting an international media briefing at Paris Games Week on 27th October. With the changes this year of E3 taking place a week later and Gamescom taking place earlier, we feel that both PlayStation and the wider industry would benefit from a major news milestone later in the year, during the most important period for gaming," the company stated.

This will be the first time that Sony will miss the Gamescom event since it began in 2009. PlayStation will be joined by other game console manufacturers like Nintendo and Microsoft during the Paris Games Week.

Meanwhile, Microsoft's Head of Xbox Phil Spencer confirmed that they will be joining the Gamescom even if Sony will not be around during the event. The confirmation came in the form of a Twitter post, wherein Spencer answered a fan who inquired if he will be present during the event.

On the other hand, Blizzard already released their planned lineup for the Cologne trade event this year. It will reportedly include "World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor," "Hearthstone," "Heroes of the Storm," "Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void" and "Overwatch," among others.
