The playing field in the highly competitive gaming console market has significantly changed over the past few years, but what remains to be the same for now seems to be the big players in the market, which includes Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. With the unveiling of the different companies' latest generation offerings, fans are now looking forward their future products, more specifically towards Sony's future gaming console, the Sony PlayStation 5.

Sony had already launched their updated PlayStation 4 console, the PlayStation 4 Pro. However, the device isn't really a new generation device as it only contains some minor internal upgrades which allows it to run standard PlayStation 4 video games at much higher resolutions.

The PlayStation 4 Pro has somewhat experienced some relative success, but gamers are, of course, still looking forward to a fully-fledged next gen console from the Japanese tech giant.

As of the moment, the hype for the new PlayStation 5 is steadily growing. But the next generation gaming console is still quite a way off from being launched, with the latest reports claiming that it could be coming out sometime in 2018. Despite the far-off release date, rumor reports are still continually trying to determine its possible hardware specs and features.

According to the latest reports, the brand new PlayStation 5 may be offered as a full-on VR device that will be able to run games in full 4K resolutions or higher. Some reports have even claimed that the console may be running games natively at that resolution thanks to new and powerful processors.

Reports have also claimed that Sony may be doing away with disc drives altogether and that the console may be sporting a large capacity hard disk which gamers can use to store all their downloaded games.

There is very little that is known about Sony's future console, and fans would probably just have to wait for what the company will be coming up with in order to stay at the top of the gaming food chain in the coming years.
