Sony has just recently announced that they would release a figurine collection modeled after some of the most iconic characters that gained extreme popularity on the Playstation in recent years.

The seven-figurine collection, which is manufactured by ThinkGeek, a Gamestop company, will be out for retail this coming March. It is important to note that some of the figurines aren't from game series that are exclusive to the Sony-made console.

Called the Totaku Collection, the characters included are: Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet, Kratos from God of War, Crash Bandicoot, the Hunter from Bloodborne, Heihachi from Tekken, Parappa the Rapper, and the Feisar FX350 ship from Wipeout. According to Sony, they are highly detailed figurines, can be displayed multiple ways, and stands four inches tall on a fixed, non-articulated base.

Many are thinking that the Totaku Collection is Sony's answer to Nintendo's amiibos, but that isn't the case. Although the physical designs are highly similar, the Totaku figurines don't have the same functionalities the amiibos have, such as saving game data or releasing bonus content. They're simply just for display and collection purposes.

Therefore, Sony should make sure to differentiate the Totaku collection from the amiibos, else consumers will be really disappointed when they try to tap their figurines on their PS4.

Some may be disappointed that only a limited number of characters are included in the figurine collection, but Sony may be just testing the waters if the product would prove successful among its consumers. If the Totaku Collection sells out fast, then Sony might expand their collection and make other famous gaming characters.

Also, some are also confused on why Sony has taken this long to develop the Totaku line and why it doesn't have the same functions as the amiibos. No information has been released by Sony as of yet.

Sony's Totaku Collection would be released on March 23 this year on Gamestop.
