Like its predecessor, the new Sony Xperia M5 smartphone is designed for capturing very sharp selfies. Receiving an IP68 rating from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the device will come dust and water resistant — it last up to 30 minutes under 1.5 meters of water.

Comparing the two handsets, Xperia M5 will sport the same 5-inch display screen that the M4 Aqua has, but with a higher 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution quality. Similar to its predecessor, Xperia M5 will also run on the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system (OS).

Under the hood, the Xperia M5 will pack a MediaTek Helio X10 MT6795 8 core processor, 3GB RAM, and up to 16GB expandable built-in memory. On the other hand, the Xperia M4 Aqua comes with Qualcomm's MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB RAM, and up to 8GB expandable internal memory storage.

In addition, Xperia M5 will have a slightly larger 2,600 mAh battery capacity that provides 62 hours and 53 minutes music playing time, according to Phone Arena. For the M4 Aqua, it is powered by a 2,400 mAh battery that offers up to 64 hours and 40 minutes music playing time, according to GSM Arena.

In terms of the cameras, the M5 is expected to have a powerful 21.5-megapixel rear camera and a sharp 13-megapixel front-facing camera. Meanwhile, the M4 Aqua comes with a 13-megapixel camera on the back and a 5-megapixel camera on the front.

One of the interesting features of the new Xperia M5 is its "Clear Image Zoom" capability, which enables users to zoom in on any objects without losing the quality, according to Digital Trends. Other camera features of the M5 include HDR mode and 4K video recording.
