Sony Xperia Tablet Ultra: 12.9-inch tab to be launched in 2015

Sony Electronics is allegedly developing a new tablet that will come out next year. A report, published by Taiwanese blog site DigiTimes, mentioned that the Japanese consumer and electronics brand is coming up with a 12.9-inch tablet that will be launched sometime in June 2015.

It is also rumored that the said device, which is expected to be called as the Sony Xperia Tablet Ultra, will come with a 12.9-inch display featuring a 3840 x 2400 resolution along with a Qualcomm processor, which could possibly be a SnapDragon 810 series octa-core CPU. It will be around 8.6 mm thick, and will have an 8-megapixel camera.

There are also reports saying that the so-called Sony Xperia Tablet Ultra will be manufactured by Pegatron Technology, which also happens to be the same manufacturer of the iPad product line from Apple and the Surface line of Microsoft.

However, the reported new product will be on the expensive side. According to reports, the new tablet from Sony will have a price tag of more than $1,000. The release of Sony's latest large-sized tablet is believed to be the company's answer to the other tablet releases, particularly Apple's new rumored product iPad Pro and the other tablets from Samsung.

The current market progress of tablet products is slow compared to smartphones, yet there are still positive news saying that current tablet market leaders like the Cupertino-based company and the South Korean brand are getting bigger revenues after releasing their own tablet devices.

Although there are no exact details or confirmations provided for the so-called device, Sony recently confirmed that the company will be releasing a new flagship phone and phablet that will be dubbed as the Sony Xperia Z4 in the upcoming CES 2015 event in Las Vegas, which will be conducted from Jan. 6 to 9.
