Sony Xperia XZ3 release date, specs rumors: Leaks suggest updated device will come with dual rear cameras

The Sony Xperia XZ2

The Sony Xperia XZ2 hasn't even been out all that long and yet tech fans are already wondering what Sony will offer next in its updated device.

The latest leaks around the next in Sony's flagship Xperia XZ series suggest the tech giant is putting its faith in dual cameras.

That's according to leaked photos from Japanese website Sumahoinfo (via GSMArena) that suggest Sony is adding them to the middle of the device, instead of the traditional top corner seen on other smartphones.  The dual camera setup is something Sony actually already added to the Xperia XZ2 Premium handset.

Some things look similar to the existing Xperia XZ2, like the curved back.  And the leaks suggest a tall device with an 18:9 aspect ratio screen and slightly thicker bezels than seen in other rival smartphones.

Little else is known about the rumored device but as Sony tends to make its updates every six months, it's possible we'll be getting confirmation from them very soon about it.

According to GSM Arena, previous leaks have previously teased that Sony will add a bigger battery to the device as well as an increase in RAM and that the device will have a 5.7-inch display with a 1080 x 2160 IPS.

Sony has struggled to get its head above the water in the crowded smartphone market and never quite managed to bring out a device that got people as excited as the Apple iPhone or the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Note series.  Perhaps the high price tags have put people off.

If these leaks are true, it looks like Sony might not be doing any spectacularly groundbreaking with the upgraded device but instead focus on bringing out a solid handset that's in keeping with the reputation its built over the years for expensive but reliable smartphones.

Sony has a tendency to bring out new updates on its handsets during the IFA Berlin, which takes place in the German capital this year from August 31 to September 5, 2018 so it may be that we get an official update then.
