Sony Xperia Z4 release date and specs update: New leaks show off flagship's looks

A whole new host of renderings of the new Sony Xperia Z4 has been leaked just recently. OnLeaks has again given the tech community a glimpse of the forthcoming Sony flagship but this time, they are clearer and more concrete.

The concept images show the Sony Xperia Z4 dressed in OmniBalance design, one that its predecessor dons. The SIM card slot is placed on the handset's left side. There are also small spaces at the top and bottom of the Xperia Z4 for speakers, much like the Z2.

At first look, one would be forgiven that to think that the Xperia Z4 is not so much about resisting water anymore. Sony has always been for waterproofing their devices, may they be high-grade or mid-range. The charging dock pins are no longer at the top left, protected with a waterproof flake, but is now at the base of the device. However, despite this, Phandroid says that it will keep its Ingress rating of IP65/68.

OnLeaks notes that the renderings are not yet final. The design can still undergo changes since they are from one of Sony's early attempts. Nevertheless, it looks like something that Sony would make out of its trademark qualities and distinctive minor design alterations.

According to Phone Arena, the Sony Xperia Z4 may not show up until IFA 2015, which is scheduled on Sept. 9 to 15 in Berlin. This is because the tech firm might be steering clear of releasing flagships every six months and would go back to annual launches.

The Sony Xperia Z4 is rumored to come with a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display that generates uber-crisp visuals set at 2560 x 1440 resolution and 565 ppi pixel density. It is also said to pack a 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera as well as a 5-megapixel selfie snapper. The handset will be in 32 GB and 64 GB flavors, both to be supported with a hefty 4 GB RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor for excellent power and performance.
