When it was confirmed that a successor to the Xperia Z3 lineup of Sony was already in the works, fans of the flagship were ecstatic and have expected a much-improved handset. Sadly for global fans, the Xperia Z4 was released exclusively for the Japanese market, and it is still unclear if the smartphone will be making it to western shores. While there is a Z3 Plus released in Europe and a Z4v for North America, both devices were released with subtle differences from the main Z4 product lineup.

Now, Sony smartphone fans are speculating on how the company will handle its upcoming smartphone flagship as rumors of an upcoming Xperia Z5 lineup heat up.

Leaked images of what is purported to be the Xperia Z5 have been making their rounds online. Reported first by fan site XperiaBlog, the reports say that the lineup will be made of at least three devices – the Z5, Z5 Compact, and a larger Z5 Plus. Specifications for a base model Z5 include a 5.5-inch full HD display, a Snapdragon 810 chip, 3 GB of RAM, and the signature 20.7-MP main camera with improved shooting features. Based on the leaked images, the Xperia Z5 will also come with a fingerprint scanner.

Meanwhile, although the dimensions for the third product remain unknown, it is rumored that the Z5 Plus will have at least a 6.0-inch screen. It has been speculated that one of the most notable features of the larger Z5 Plus will be its stunning display.

According to Android Authority, to take advantage of a larger screen size, the Z5 Plus will also come equipped with Sony's patented X-reality technology. This feature will allow the Z5 Plus to display 4K resolution on the device, with a software used currently in Sony's TV lineups. The X-Reality PRO option lets Sony 4K TVs get enhanced HD displays.
