Sony Mobile has already rolled out its Xperia Z5 lineup, and the base model and Compact and Premium variants were what fans expected. The Xperia Z5 Premium was a surprise for many as it turned out to be the first smartphone that offers 4k display resolution, along with a number of premium features.

However, conspicuously absent was a large, phablet iteration of the newest lineup, and fans wondered if Sony will be coming with an Xperia Z5 Ultra iteration. According to recent reports, the rumors may be proven true sooner than fans think.

Phone Arena stated that it has already received an invite from Sony about the upcoming 2016 Consumer Electronics Show event. According to the industry insidiser, Sony scheduled a 5 p.m PST period for their press conference on Jan. 5. Meanwhile, although it was not directly stated in the invite, Sony offered a teaser on what it will discuss at the upcoming event – its new consumer electronics lineups, including a smartphone image.

The industry insider then revealed that should Sony unveil a new Xperia at the event, it would most likely be the Xperia Z5 Ultra, rather than the rumored Xperia Z6.

Gizbot seems to be thinking along the same lines. According to the website, it is still too early for Sony to come out with another updated lineup, given that the new Xperia Z5 iterations were only announced and launched last September. Meanwhile, the new iterations lack the Ultra variant that other Xperia lineups have, and Sony might be targeting the CES 2016 to announce the Xperia Z5's new addition.

Should the new flagship iteration be the Ultra edition for the Xperia Z5, rumor has it that the new flagship will carry a Snapdragon 820 SoC, a 4K display like the Premium variant, 4 GB of RAM, a 23-MP main camera, and a 4,000-mAh battery.
