Survival game SOS is coming to Steam early access on Jan. 23. Dubbed a social survival game, SOS is not the usual run-and-gun, kill-to-win, survival game. Instead, players are allowed to do things at their own pace, make friends, and outwit their opponents to secure a spot on a chopper out of La Luna Island.

One of the interesting game mechanics found in SOS is its proximity chat. Players who are close enough to each other in game, will be able to hear what the other player is saying. People need a working microphone to be able to play. While players are limited to speaking to those close enough to them, spectators of the game will be able to hear the players and watch the madness unfold.

While the game's early access mode is still a few weeks away, "SOS" already has a Steam page with additional information regarding what gamers can expect from the social survival game.

The game's synopsis reads: "SOS is an interactive game show where 16 entertaining performers are dropped onto La Cuna Island with one simple goal – get off La Cuna Island. Players must find a relic, signal for extraction, and grab a spot on the rescue chopper while out-thinking opponents and fending off monster hordes." The game, is at its core, a survival game. The aim is to stay alive, avoid or fight monsters, and leave the island in once piece. However, nowhere does it promote that actual death matches often present in multiplayer survival games.

Players can tackle the survival aspect at their own pace, choosing whether or not they want to befriend others and stick to a group or play as a lone wolf and slowly do away with the competition.

PC Gamer highlights one of the hilarious moments possible in "SOS" and tells the story of a streamer who made two of her infected companions compete in a rap battle for the only antidote.

Despite the fun games and creative ways to get rid of the competition. At the end of the day, resources in "SOS" are limited and only three people can make it out of the island alive.
