'Soul Calibur VI' characters rumor: Witcher Geralt of Rivia to be in the game's fighter roster

Geralt from "The Witcher"CD Projekt RED

It seems there was not enough monsters for Geralt of Rivia of "The Witcher" games to slay, as the antihero will now be making his way into the upcoming fighting game "Soul Calibur VI" as a playable fighter.

Though fans of both franchises might want to hold their breaths first since these are just rumors and have not been confirmed at the moment. This rumor began in a forum thread of Resetera where an anonymous member claims that he has a friend testing "Soul Calibur VI" and wrote "39 characters. Geralt as guest character. That's all I got," pertaining to the game's roster of fighters.

This was back in February and gained enough popularity to be noticed by Marcin Momot, Community Lead for "Witcher"developer CD Projekt Red. Momot took to Twitter to discuss the possibility of their game's protagonist Geralt appearing as a guest fighter in "one of the upcoming games later this year." Apparently fans saw this tweet as a tease from the developers signaling their lending of Geralt to another game.

This is also not the first time the "Soul Calibur" franchise has borrowed a protagonist from another game franchise since each, game, there was at least one character from another popular game which they added to the roster. Some of these characters include "God of War's" Kratos, Ezio Auditore from "Assassin's Creed II," Darth Vader and Yoda from "Star Wars," and so on. Meaning the possibility that Geralt gets included in "Soul Calibur VI" is not far-fetched and perhaps even plausible.

Meanwhile, Bandai Namco, the publisher of "Soul Calibur" reportedly has a working relationship with CD Projekt RED since the former apparently helped the latter with the distribution for "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" in Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

So far, only Geralt has been rumored to be appearing as a guest character from another franchise, and now it seems the only way to confirm his appearance in the fighting game is to wait for official announcements from Bandai Namco. "Soul Calibur VI" has no release date yet but is expected sometime during 2018.
