Video game developer Bandai Namco has been really busy coming up with promotional material for its fighting games. Its upcoming weapons-oriented title "Soul Calibur VI" has been updated recently with a brand-new trailer, which gives fans a sneak peak into the playable characters that fans will be able to use, as well as the new video game mechanics that can be expected from the highly anticipated fighting title.

In the released trailer, the Samurai-inspired character, Mitsurugi, is shown battling Sophitia at an elegant ancient Greece-inspired location, which has white stone structures and a variety of fountains. The battle between the two makes up mostly the entire video, with the trailer showcasing the advances in the game's graphics quality. The trailer also confirms that Sophitia indeed returns to "Soul Calibur VI" after being absent fromt the previous title.

Reports state that the reason why Mitsurugi and Sophitia are showcased in the teaser trailer is due to the fact that they were the first characters to be designed for the upcoming sequel. Eventually, the designs for the two characters became the basis for those of the subsequent characers of "Soul Calibur VI."

However, the most interesting twist occurs at the end of the trailer when an unknown character, with a dominantly violet motiff, is shown with a double sword just before the trailer fades to black. Nothing has been officially revealed regarding who this character is, however -- and it appears that fans will have to wait a little longer to find out which heroes will be included in "Soul Calibur VI."

The gameplay mechanics have also been updated, with the new reversal edge system -- which will allow players to engage in a "clash" against one another. Once this event has occurred, this will prompt players to react based on the combat decisions of the opponent. Those who are able to time their attacks, as well as predict their opponent's movements correctly, will win the reversal edge, gaining a huge advantage after the instance.

"Soul Calibur VI" is expected to be released some time in 2018.
