Special edition of Angelina Jolie's 'Unbroken' DVD details hero's Christian faith
A special edition DVD of the hit film "Unbroken" includes bonus material that discusses the protagonist's Christian faith.
The blockbuster movie omitted much of Louis Zamperini's spiritual transformation, but his experience with Christ will be detailed in full in "Unbroken: Legacy of Faith."
Zamperini, a former cross-country track athlete, carried the torch in five Olympic games, and enlisted in the Air Force during World War II. He survived a plane crash, 47 days floating on a raft in the Pacific Ocean, more than two years as a Japanese prisoner of war, and substance abuse and psychological disorders when he returned to the United States.
Zamperini would go on to dedicate his life to Christ, forgive his captors, and become an inspirational speaker before his passing last year.
The Universal Pictures film was an adaptation of the best-selling book "Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption" by Laura Hillenbrand.
"Legacy of Faith" details Zamperini's spiritual awakening at a 1949 service held by Evangelist Billy Graham, and how his life was forever changed. Zamperini's son, Luke, said that it was important to show the world his father's commitment to Christ.
"The Christian world has embraced Louis Zamperini's story as one of their own," he said. "But I'm hoping for a wider release for the 'Legacy of Faith' version so that people who don't shop at Christian stores can get their hands on this."
The DVD is distributed by "God's Not Dead" producers Pure Flix Entertainment, and is available now in Family Christian Stores, Mardel Christian Stores, Parable Christian Stores and on ChristianBook.com.
Luke, his sister, Cynthia, Hillenbrand, and others appear in "Legacy of Faith"-- which also focuses on Zamperini's friendship with Rev. Graham.
