"Captain America: Civil War" has introduced Peter Parker aka Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Tom Holland in the role, and this will continue in the solo film "Spider-Man: Homecoming." According to a report from IGN, the movie will feature Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), and the two heroes will continue their mentor-student relationship that is teased in "Captain America: Civil War."

"I think that this mentor relationship that Tony has developed with Peter Parker is probably one of the most interesting things the universe has moving forward," explained "Civil War" co-director Joe Russo. "Having Tony mentor a young hero brings a fresh dimension to the character. It's going to be interesting to see just how much screen time Downey has in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming,' and how much of that time he'll spend in the Iron Man armor."

Fans speculate that this statement indicates Tony Stark will be in the film mostly out of the suit and will most likely just be there guiding the titular web-slinger. This will prevent Tony from stealing the spotlight as Iron Man, allowing the movie to still focus on Spider-Man.

Russo did explain that the main difference with their version of "Spider-Man" is that this is the first time a very young actor was cast in the role, giving a sense of vulnerability and a teenager's sense of confidence. It is these characteristics that will blend well with Tony's experience, who has been a superhero at this point for a decade.

According to a report from Screen Rant, it is possible that Spider-Man will view Tony as a father figure given that at this point in the timeline his uncle Ben Parker has already died. This would give the two characters an even stronger bond than one being a mentor and the other an apprentice superhero. 

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" releases in theaters on July 7, 2017.
