It's been a while since reports of Zendaya's potential casting as Mary Jane Watson first came out. Some fans weren't happy when they heard the news and the race-related controversy that followed was a complete 360 from the usual whitewashing issue that has been hounding several big-budget Hollywood films lately.

Zendaya spoke with ET Online recently and just in case people missed her previous statements, she has once again insisted that she's not playing Mary Jane in "Spider-Man: Homecoming."

"I'm not Mary Jane unfortunately, but I am in the movie, which is exciting. My character's name is Michelle. If that's what everybody wants to think, I'm gonna let people think whatever they want to think," the actress said.

Well, that's another statement denying she's playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man's (Tom Holland) love interest. But all that winking at the camera during the interview isn't going to make people believe her more. There's a chance that they are just keeping things under wraps, but even if Zendaya is really playing a different character she may still have a prominent role in the film.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Variety, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talked about how Spider-Man fits in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how he is different from the other film versions of the character.

"In the previous films, Spider-Man was the only superhero who existed in that world. In the comic books, Spider-Man always existed in a world where the Avengers existed, and Iron Man existed, and the Hulk would run through the streets, and Captain America had been thawed out of the ice," he explained.

Feige also said Peter would get the chance to live as a kid that has to worry about normal kid stuff like going to school and doing his homework. That's different from the previous versions of Spider-Man who had to save the world, New York in particular, from psychotic villains because no one else could.

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" is scheduled to premiere on July 7, 2017.
