Speaking to Den of Geek, director Jon Watts got to talk about the upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot film he is set to direct. The interviewer exclaimed that the choice to bring Spider-Man back in high school reminded him of the "Ultimate Spider-Man" comics to which Watts replied:

"Ultimate is great. I love Ultimate. We have the freedom to pull from anything, but I really like what Brian Michael Bendis did. A lot. That felt like... that was Peter Parker back in high school. And, spending as much time with his high school problems as it did with his superhero problems, which I think is really a lot of fun."

Watts also pointed out other "Spider-Man" series which may also be an inspiration for the film such as "Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane" and those done by Archie Comics. 

According to a report from Screen Rant, it is unclear if Watts is really confirming the "Ultimate Spider-Man" comic books will be a basis for the reboot film or if he simply addressed what the Den of Geek interviewer brought up.

It is highly likely that the comic books by Bendis will be an insipiration as they focus a lot on Peter Parker aka Spider-Man's relationship with his classmates, teachers and eventually his employers at the Daily Bugle. 

Another hint that the "Ultimate" series will be the basis for the film is a separate interview Watts had with Yahoo! Movies. During the interview Watts was asked if Miles Morales, Peter Parker's successor as Spider-Man after the latter's death, would be introduced in the new film.

"I can't talk about that, because, you know, that will reveal too much," Watts explained. "We're still writing the story... we haven't finished all the way through the story yet, so who knows."

Cinema Blend reported that this could mean Watts and the writers are not yet sure whether or not Morales will indeed be included or if the character already has been added but cannot be announced just yet.

Spider-Man will first appear in a cameo role in next year's "Captain America: Civil War" and then have his own solo film in 2017, starring Tom Holland in the titular role.
