So the "Spider-Man-Captain America" crossover movie had a possibility after all. 

In a series of emails between Sony's and Marvel's big bosses that were leaked recently and acquired by The Wall Street Journal, the two studios talked about the potential crossover between two of their biggest franchises. The emails were between the movie outfits' head executives, including Sony President of Production Doug Belgrad, Sony Pictures Chief Amy Pascal, Sony CEO Kaz Hirai, as well as Disney Chairperson Bob Iger. 

Based on reports, Belgrad discussed with Pascal during an Oct. 30 email a possible scenario wherein Marvel Studios could produce three new "Spider-Man" films while their company continues to have control over the trilogy's marketing, distribution, and creative control. 

In a different email, Pascal relayed to another business partner that Marvel is planning to bring Peter Parker to the upcoming "Captain America" movie, which focuses on the Civil War plot from the comics. 

However, all those talks did not materialize because the film production outfits could not agree on a deal. It means that the much anticipated cross-over film will not happen, for now. 

As of the moment, Sony will continue its plans for the new "Spider-Man" film, as well as other spinoff projects like the "Venom" and "Sinister Six" films. There are also news about an all-female "Spider-Man" movie that is said to be using the working title "Glass Ceiling." 

The clamor for the "Spider-Man" and Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover film stemmed from avid fans of both comic books who have read the Civil War plot. In that story, Peter Parker/Spider-Man encountered the Avengers during a dark time for the superheroes. 

The "Captain America: Civil War" film is currently in production, and it star Chris Evans in the titular role and Robert Downey Jr. to reprise his role as Iron Man. The film will be released on May 6, 2016.
