Nintendo Europe has announced that the next Splatfest will take place on the very first day of 2016. In this ink-tastic affair, the game studio asks gamers if they prefer to be fit or rich. This will be the governing question that will divide Inklings into two teams.

Nintendo News points out that Nintendo Europe initially announced the event will take place on Jan. 2 but it has since corrected the blunder. So to reiterate, the next Splatfest will officially take place on Jan. 1, 2016 at 6 p.m. GMT.

Splatfests are unquestionably one of the most exciting and fun forms of celebrating "Splatoon." Here, players are split into two blocs depending on their preference between two different options like love or money, cats or dogs and even Autobots or Decepticons.

Nintendo Life notes that the team with the fewer members almost always brings home the bacon. Whether or not this will also be true for the latest question that makes players chose between being wealthy or in shape, only time will tell.

In other related news, the "Splatoon" Wii U bundle is now sold out in Japan. Last week saw the units rapidly fly off retailers' shelves. According to Wii U Daily, the game has sold more than one million units in Japan alone and two and half million across the globe.

"Splatoon" quickly became the fourth bestselling game in Japan and its massive success is not something even Nintendo expected when it released the title in May. While the game was assumed to take off, the achievements it has so far acquired were beyond its manufacturer's prospects.

In fact, the third-person shooter game was The Verge and Just Push Start's choice for game of the year. Digital Trends reports that the ink-laden mess fest is also one of the most popular Wii U games this year.
