'Splatoon' update: Nintendo releases final weapon

The final weapon "Splatoon" has been dropped. The Custom Hydra Splatling comes as the 74th and last weapon to ever be made available in the hit third-person shooter video game by Nintendo.

"Put out fires for your allies from a safe distance with this water-hose like main weapon and the Sprinkler sub it comes with. If the action gets too hot, pop your Bubbler and get outta there!" Nintendo wrote on its Splatoon Tumblr page.

Custom Hydra Splatling comes as a free weapon, like any other weapons that drop in "Splatoon." It is important to note, however, that not all 74 weapons in the game are available to all gamers.

There are actually three of those that are only accessible to players with Amiibo who manage to complete a series of challenges in the game. Either way, players couldn't ask for more than the solid flow of weapons for the game.

It isn't exactly a surprise that "Splatoon" players received its last weapon freebie in the form of the Custom Hydra Splatling. Back in November, the Japanese gaming company made known their plans to provide DLC support until January 2016.

However, it is still unclear if a whole new DLC will be made available (and that the weapons goodies have just ended) or the74 weapons provided in the game make up the company's post-launch plans for the surprise hit game.

In lieu of the release of the final "Splatoon" weapon, Nintendo shared an artwork showing all weapons released for the game, adding that although the Custom Hydra Splatling is the last one, there are still ways to have fun with what's already made available.

"I'm sure you've got a few you've never tried, right? Sometimes, switching weapons can open up whole new strategies, so take a chance and try something new!" Nintendo said in the same blog post.

"Splatoon" was released May last year and has since won The Game Award for Best Shooter and Best Multiplayer as well as the hearts of millions of Nintendo fans.
