'Splatoon' updated with new weapons

One of the most successful launches for Nintendo this year is its very first shooter, "Splatoon." The game is different from what players imagine in a shooter genre. Instead of the usual gory, military-based combat simulation, "Splatoon" features a colorful cast of characters and kid-friendly arenas. Nintendo also made sure that the gameplay would stick to the "E" rating for the game.

As part of new content for "Splatoon," Nintendo is updating the title with new stages and weapons. The expansion and updates started rolling out late last week and continues prior to the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

The latest weapons to be added to the "Splatoon" arsenal are the L-3 Nozzlenose and the custom weapon E-litre 3K. As with previous updates, they will roll out this week as part of Nintendo's E3 surprise. Players from North America could check out these new weapons late in the evening, and early morning for Europe gamers.

Previously, Nintendo also added the noted Splash-o-Matic to the Inklings' weapon roster. The new upgrade does not offer much in terms of power in mid- to long-range attacks, but enemies are sure to burst when the weapon is used in close quarters combat.

Other weapon updates in the title include The Inkbrush, which is a giant paintbrush that can be used as the Paint Roller weapon. However, the brush has added bonuses — while equipped, players can use the Sprinkler sub-weapon and the Airstrike special weapon.

Nintendo has already stated that the various weapon updates are just a tiny part of planned new content for their "Splatoon" shooter, and it is also reported that the title will have a major update come August. Nintendo is keeping details about this major update under wraps, and fans expect the company to provide at least teaser information while presenting at this year's E3.
