Nintendo may have already dropped the final update for "Splatoon" but the end is far from over for the mega-successful third-person shooter video game. The game company has hinted that they still have plans for the title in the future.

"We announced that updates to the game would end in January, but I'm starting to wonder if we can't organize a little something else," producer Hisashi Nogami said during his speech at the Splatoon Koshien Finals, as translated by a NeoGAF user.

According to Gamespot, this "something else" will likely be something gratis. It will unlikely be a paid expansion pack seeing that the company has already stressed that they have no plans to release such type of add-ons for "Splatoon."

At the moment, there's no concrete info on Nintendo's plans for the hit ink-shooter game but from the looks of it, its expansion is not yet over. In what form the game will be expanded remains to be seen.

"Splatoon" has been a surprise hit for Nintendo. As per Techno Buffalo, the gaming company enjoyed 4.06 million sales across the globe from April to December 2015. Counting the success of "Super Mario Maker," Nintendo had 33 percent increase in Wii U lifetime sales.

The colorful, ink-filled Wii U sensation is getting more and more popular too. Its characters Callie and Marie – collectively and better known as the Squid Sisters – recently performed their first-ever live concert in Japan and are poised to do more.

New reports are suggesting that the "Splatoon" duo will get their own Amiibo soon. Some fans unearthed Amiibo references in the game files from the latest update that brought the final weapon Custom Hydra Splatling and the last map ever, the Ancho-V Games.

At the moment, Nintendo is yet to make this official but with the company's desire to do more for the game, it looks like fans should get themselves ready for an announcement.
