'Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness' news: New characters and 'role' system revealed
"Star Ocean 5," properly titled "Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness," will launch on Feb. 25, 2016 for the PS3 and PS4 in Japan and a Western release is expected to follow. A previous report detailed the three main characters, Fidel, Miki and Lilia, and a new report from Gematsu details two new additions to the cast.
The report showcases 41-year-old Emerson, a male character focusing on long-range attacks with his crossbow. He is described to look like a medicine salesman who doesn't actually sell any medicine. Emerson is said to have a frank personality and has a strong love for booze and women.
His companion is the 28-year-old female character named Anne. She is somewhat the polar opposite of Emerson as she prefers to fight up-close and personal and is described to be quite intellectual and well-composed while also being chide but to the point of being rude and cold.
Gematsu also showcases some of the game's battle system by explaining how the new "role" system works. In theory, it is very similar to the basics of "Dungeons & Dragons." In "Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness," the roles are generalized in several categories: Attacker, Defender, Recovery and Support.
Each role has four subsets. For the Attack role, a player could choose to be an Attacker, Fighter, Bazaar or Caster. Each sub-type will have its own sets of bonuses and focus, allowing players to create a diverse team where each party member has a different distinct task in order for the party to survive and win battles.
The sub-types for the Defense role includes Defender, Guardless Alpha, Knight and Vanguard. The Recovery's sub-types include the Healer, First-Aid, Guts and Saver, while the Support's sub-types are the Provoker, Interceptor, Attack Strategist and Intelligence Strategist.
There are also special types of roles that give attribute boosts such as an HP Boost or MP Boost.
