'Star Wars: Battlefront' latest news: PS VR package offers 'Rouge One X-Wing' DLC
In the coming months, more and more virtual reality video games will most likely be hitting the shelves seeing as major players in the gaming industry have already released their own VR headsets.
Now, reports have revealed that those who have bought Sony's new PlayStation VR headsets may be getting a free copy of the "Rouge One X-Wing" VR downloadable content (DLC) expansion pack for the previously released first-person shooter video game, "Star Wars: Battlefront."
Different VR headsets are already starting to roll out into the market, with Sony just recently releasing their latest PlayStation VR just last week. The new VR headset currently retails at £349 in U.K and $399 in the U.S.
As an added bonus for PlayStation 4 players who already own a copy of "Star Wars: Battlefront," those who will be purchasing Sony's VR headset will apparently be getting a copy of the new DLC expansion for free when it comes out.
The brand new DLC expansion pack was apparently created to fully feature the capabilities of Sony's new VR headset. The content of the game has been revealed to be supplementary to the game itself, and will be taking place mostly in outer space where players will be piloting an X-Wing fighter as they attempt to go against an Imperial Star Destroyer swarming with TIE Fighters.
The game's developer — Criterion Games — have also clarified that despite its title, the DLC is in no way a direct tie-up to the upcoming movie, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."
The DLC is instead interconnected with "Star Wars: Battlefront," as it is basically set in the same time period. The developers also revealed that they actually worked closely with Lucas Films to ensure that the DLC was a truly authentic "Star Wars" experience.
The "Star Wars: Battlefront - Rouge One X-Wing" DLC is scheduled to be released in December, around the same time as the release of the movie, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."
The upcoming movie is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 16, which means that the DLC should be available a few days before or after the premiere.
