Star Wars Episode 7 cast: Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill confirmed by JJ Abrams
After months of endless rumors, Lucasfilm and Disney finally announced the new cast for Star Wars Episode 7.
JJ Abrams' Star Wars sequel will see the return of Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker.
Producers confirmed the return of original castmembers Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill to reprise their roles from Star Wars movie trilogy. Younger cast members are John Boyega, Domhnall Gleeson, and Daisy Ridley.
Also joining is Swedish actor Max von Sydow, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver, Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca, Anthony Daniels as C3PO and Kenny Baker as R2D2.
The upcoming Star Wars Episode 7 film will be set 30 years after the events of the Return of the Jedi.
Abrams said in a statement: "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII," Abrams said in a statement. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."
Previously rumored to have a small role in the film is Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o and "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch. The Sherlock star had quickly dismissed those rumors by saying, "No offer has been made. That is that. And that is that!" Others thrown into the mix were fellow Brits Rachel Hurd-Wood, Alex Pettyfer, Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron.
Star Wars: Episode 7 will be hitting theaters worldwide on December 18. 2015.
