When the title for the "Star Wars 8" was revealed, which is "The Last Jedi," eagle-eyed fans were quick to speculate as to what it means, and whom it refers to. Since the term "Jedi" can be used in singular and plural form, the film's title has been one of the hottest topics that have caused a lot of theories and debates in the "Star Wars" community. Now, there's an answer.

During his recent interview with Good Morning America, director Rian Johnson was asked to clarify whether the Jedi in "The Last Jedi" is singular or plural. "It's so funny when people started asking that when the title was announced because I had never even pondered that question," he said. He added that in his mind, it has always been singular.

When the interviewer tried to dig deeper and make Johnson reveal whether or not Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is indeed the last Jedi, he tried to avoid the question, but eventually ended up giving the answer everyone has been waiting for. He said, "They say in The Force Awakens that he's going to find the last Jedi temple, and Luke is the last Jedi."

Meanwhile, Hamill, who plays Luke in the "Star Wars" franchise, may have hinted that "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" could be the end of his character's journey. 

"That's why I enjoy 'Rogue One' so much... because I'm not in it. This is a little too high profile for me," he told Fandango, during a panel at the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, when asked if he was going to be sticking around after this year's film. Whether "The Last Jedi" is going to be the last viewers are going to see of Luke, he answered with a smirk, "To be determined."

The upcoming film this Dec. 15 is said to heavily focus on the character, and with this statement that hints at Luke's impending doom, it is possible that he may not make it to "Star Wars 9." However, these are all just speculations for now. Fans will have to wait for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" to find out what really happens to Darth Vader's son.
