Developer Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) is shooting for the stars with their upcoming hundred-million-dollar indie game, "Star Citizen: Squadron 42," as the system requirements for the most ambitious science-fiction (sci-fi) role-playing game (RPG) have been announced.

For the uninformed, the game has been split into two where the single player component has been named "Squadron 42," and there will also be a yet-unnamed promising online or multiplayer aspect. An important thing to note, though, is that the game has no release date yet and is still under development indefinitely. However, the said system requirements could help players prepare for an eventual release and might also signal that the game is coming to a near wrap-up.

CIG has revealed that at the bare minimum, "Star Citizen: Squadron 42" will be needing at least an Intel Core i5-2500k or Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Phenom II X4 940 for the central processing unit (CPU), a GeForce GTX 750 Ti or AMD Radeon R7 360X graphics processing unit (GPS) with 2 gigabytes (GB) or more video memory, and a surprising 16 GB of random access memory (RAM). This might call for an upgrade for a lot of players who still have 8 GB of RAM.

This also means that the engine of the game will be RAM-heavy and will utilize 16 GB, possibly more, in order to stream the game's resources. Should the developers' estimates be accurate, "Star Citizen" could well be one of the first games to fully utilize 16 GB of RAM for the standard Full High Definition (FHD) resolution. However, the recommended specifications have also not been announced, and it is still unclear what is necessary to be able to max out the game's graphics.

Still, "Squadron 42" looks to be promising, with its featuring an all-star cast of motion-captured actors with motion-captured animations to justify the system requirements of the upcoming game. The cast even includes Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill as one of the most notable members of the production.

Further announcements for changes or release dates are to be expected from the developers, and players and crowdfunding patrons are advised to stay tuned.
