'Star Fox Zero' update: Fox McCloud continues his father's legacy in prologue trailer

Nintendo has released the prologue scene for its upcoming 3D scrolling shooter video game "Star Fox Zero," where it tells the story behind the fight the heroic characters are fighting.

The three-minute tale is narrated by Fox McCloud, who lost his father James McCloud five years ago during a mission to stop the rise to power of the evil scientist Andross.

The fallout pushed James's supposed comrade Pigma to betray his team, while James's old wingman Peppy barely made it out alive. In "Star Fox Zero," Fox decides to continue his father's battle and legacy by reestablishing Star Fox and stopping Andross once and for all.

The new Star Fox team led by the young McCloud includes "hotshot flyboy" Falco Lombardi, gifted mechanic Slippy Toad and James's old friend and veteran pro Peppy Hare.

This story was told with stunning shots of the characters, explosions and the space regions to accompany Fox's passionate storytelling. The "Star Fox Zero" prologue trailer, although new, causes a tinge of nostalgia for fans.

Overall, the game looks a lot like the beloved 1997 classic "Star Fox 64," just richer in detail and graphics. The bosses in "Star Fox Zero" remind longtime followers of the franchise of the bosses they encountered in the previous titles.

It looks like both new and old fans will love "Star Fox Zero" for the old and new stuff it introduces. Gamers will further love the "Star Fox" package Nintendo is offering.

In the recent Nintendo Direct, the company announced that players can purchase a copy of "Star Fox Zero" and the upcoming tower defense video game "Star Fox Guard" for $60. That's a $10 discount.

Buying the digital version of this promo will offer the same discount, but will also have "Star Fox Guard" available separately on the Wii U eShop.

"Star Fox Zero" will be released on the Wii U April 21. "Star Fox Guard" will be launched on the same day.
