A new report from Trek Movie states that the upcoming third film in the rebooted "Star Trek" franchise - thirteenth overall - will be titled "Star Trek Beyond." The report states that the title has been registered with the Motion Pictures Association of America.

However, according to both Cinema Blend and Screen Rant, it is possible that "Star Trek Beyond" may not be the official title of the new movie. The "Star Trek" films, particularly since J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot took over, have been quite secretive with details, even to the point of outright lying about the films' plot and characters.

The rumored title would also continue the trend that the new films have utilized thus far: no numbers or subtitles. The second film was simply titled "Star Trek Into Darkness" and the first was titled "Star Trek," with no referrence to the nine other films bearing the "Star Trek" title.

If "Star Trek Beyond" is indeed the official title of the third film, it would indicate what actor-screenwriter Simon Pegg has in store for the film's plot and setting. According to an interview with MTV, Pegg acknowledged that the film will blend the modern style of the new films with the more philosophical side of the original TV series.

Pegg also confirmed that the film would take place during the ship's five-year mission in deep space, allowing the characters to interact with locations and people that have not been featured in the previous two films. This change of pace and setting also refers to actor Idris Elba and his role in the film.

Neither Idris Elba nor Simon Pegg have confirmed what role Elba will be playing although fans have speculated he would be portraying a Klingon, if not a new alien race. What has been confirmed is that Elba will not play character already seen in the series or previous "Star Trek" films.

In regards to this, Pegg told MTV, "It will be an original character, yes. This is the five-year mission now, we're out there. We don't always have to keep bumping into the same people... So we're gonna try and reflect that in the movie."
