Paramount Pictures has released the third and final trailer for "Star Trek Beyond," which also features the new song "Sledgehammer" by artist Rihanna. While it uses a pop song and focuses a lot on action, areas of complaints from fans about the first film, it also reveals a lot of the depth and characterization that many liked from the second trailer.

As explained by Screen Rant, this trailer also opens with Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) doubting his purpose and his journey as a captain and how he is different from his father. However, this trailer also includes a sequence and voice-over that states Kirk is recording his final captain's log entry just as he rides an escape pod, leaving a destroyed USS Enterprise.

This then cuts to a scene of the Enterprise, destroyed by the ships and drones of the villain Krall (Idris Elba), crashing on an unidentified planet. It is speculated that this is the same planet shown in the previous trailers, a land where Krall keeps his prisoners for eternity.

Following this the trailer showcases the rest of the Enterprise crew escaping to different parts of the planet, most of them paired with other crew members they normally do not interact with., such as Bones (Karl Urban) being stranded with Spock (Zachary Quinto). 

While the trailer features a pop song, it is receiving a lot more critical praise than the first film as this trailer manages to fit its scenes with the message of the song while balancing the amount of action and story portrayed in the little time given to it. 

There is also the shadow of the late Anton Yelchin, who passed away just a few weeks prior from a vehicle accident in his home, right as the film goes to celebrate the franchise's 50th year anniversary. This not only gives the movie a lot of weight to carry but also a lot of significance to go with its premiere and this trailer reportedly does well in both areas.

"Star Trek Beyond" opens in theaters this July 22.
