During the CBS panel at this year's Television Critics Association press tour, "Star Trek Discovery" executive producer Bryan Fuller took a moment to give several key details regarding the series' setting, characters and story. A report from TVLine has listed down several of the most important details Fuller divulged.

According to Fuller, the 13-episode first season will focus on a human female character however the main twist is that she is not the captain of the ship. Instead, she is described as a Lieutenant Commander and is on a journey to discover herself and how to get with others.

The executive producer also stated that the crew of the ship will have more alien characters than other "Star Trek" series. It was also stated that there will be reimaginings of an alien species already shown in the franchise before. One of the original aliens that will appear in the series is named Saru.

Fuller also confirmed there will be robots although it is uncertain if this also includes full-on androids like Data (Brent Spiner) from "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

It is also stated that the series is set roughly 10 years prior to "Star Trek: The Original Series" and several years after the events of "Star Trek Enterprise," bridging the gap between the two series. Fuller also confirmed that it will take place in the "Prime" universe and not the "Kelvin" universe aka the rebooted timeline of the new films.

Fuller also goes on to confirm that the season will tackle a famous event often referenced in the franchise and but it is not the Kobayashi Maru event, the war against the Romulans or Black Ops Section 31. 

One character, Amanda Grayson, is also hinted to be making an appearance. The character is known as Spock's (Leonard Nimoy/Zachary Quinto) mother and was portrayed in the 2009 film by Winona Ryder.

"Star Trek Discovery" will premiere on CBS in January 2017.
