According to the reporters at Meet the Movie Press, director Michelle MacLaren is one of the directors currently negotiating with LucasFilm and Disney to helm the second "Star Wars Anthology" film. The first film, "Rogue One," is already in production and is being directed by "Godzilla" director Gareth Edwards. 

According to a report from Cinema Blend, the second film in the "Anthology" series was supposed to be handled by Josh Trank, popular for writing and directing "Chronicle" and is also the director of the 2015 reboot of "Fantastic Four." Trank dropped out of the project earlier this month and, in an interview with Variety, explained that he wants to focus on his own projects. 

Ever since Trank left the project, Cinema Blend reports that Jon Favreau and Matthew Vaughn have been considered to take on the responsibility of directing the film. The former is most known for directing the first two "Iron Man" films while Matthew Vaugn directed "Kick-Ass," "X-Men: First Class," and "Kingsman: The Secret Service." 

MacLaren, who earned her reputation after directing several episodes of "Breaking Bad" and "Game of Thrones," was initially set to direct the DC and Warner Bros. film "Wonder Woman" but left the project due to creative differences with the studios. The director's chair for "Wonder Woman" is now filled by Patty Jenkins. 

At this point, it is unclear how far MacLaren got with the negotiations with Disney and LucasFilm. She has not yet confirmed if she did or did not get the job.

There is also no official word on the synopsis of the second "Star Wars Anthology" film, and LucasFilm has not given any announcement on the movie's premise or characters. However, according to a report from Collider, the most prevalent rumor is that the next film will focus on Han Solo and Boba Fett working together. This would either make it an interlude entry in the original trilogy or it might be set between Episodes VI and VII if Boba Fett somehow survived his apparent death in "Return of the Jedi."
