'Star Wars Battlefront 2' release date: Sequel launches in 2017, says leak

"Star Wars Battlefront," a reboot of the game series developed by EA and DICE for the PS4, Xbox One and PC, has proven a success. Now, a report from Segment Next has revealed that a leak from Amazon U.K. confirms that the developers are already working on a sequel which will launch in 2017.

According to the report, the main complaints about the first game was that it lacked space battles and there was an element of repetitiveness with its shortage of maps. If the developers are indeed aiming for a 2017 release date it is speculated that they may be giving the game more time and effort to include what the first game lacked.

The post on Amazon U.K. lists the game for the PS4 and Xbox One with a price at £59.99, which roughly converts to $79.99. The PC version is also included and is priced at £49.99, which converts to roughly $66, likely to be sold at $69.99 in the U.S.

However, the release window of 2017 has since been removed from the Amazon listing. Despite this, consumers can still begin pre-ordering even if the game has not been officially confirmed by the developers and publisher. There are also no listings yet for the pre-order bonuses that consumers get when they get the game early.

It is likely that the game will launch in 2017 given that it will be the same year that "Star Wars: Episode VIII" will launch in theaters. The first game released roughly the same time that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was released in theaters and the same may be done for the next game and film, launching them together.

As fans wait for the second game in the series, a previous report points out that the first game may be getting a single-player campaign mode that can be played offline. As it is now, the first "Star Wars Battlefront" can only be played via online multiplayer but this will change once attention shifts to the second game.
