There is no scarcity in terms of speculations for "Star Wars: Episode VIII" despite its release still being a year from now. In fact, there are so many floating around ranging from theories that sound plausible to ones that are downright out-there. But from time to time there are ones that get more attention than others due to the way they are presented. The latest from the rumor pool is a fan theory that aims to explain Rey's (Daisy Ridley) mysterious origins.

This particular theory comes from Reddit which admittedly is not the best place for authentic news, but the author of the claim gives out some points with merit. Based on the speculation, Rey is part of some sort of royal family which is a familiar theme in the "Star Wars" lore. Although it did not really explain which family the new heroine came from, it suggests that Luke (Mark Hamill) saved her from the claws of the dark side after he found out that she is quite attuned to the Force. He then took her in until he needed to drop her in Jakku to keep her away from the budding chaos. The narrative is quite reminiscent of what happened with the young Skywalker only that Obi-Wan Kenobi (Sir Alec Guinness) stayed close to him in Tatooine.

"I think Rey is from a royal family, from a planet unknown to the audience. The First Order invaded Rey's homeworld, and wiped them out. Maybe a group of loyal guards escaped with the young Rey, and left her on Jakku for her own safety," Reddit user The_Playboy explained his case.

Tapping into the royal angle, the franchise is not really devoid of the idea with Leia (Carrie Fisher) being a princess even before she became the general of the current Resistance group. Even the Skywalkers' mother, Padme Amidala (Natalie Portman) was serving as Queen of Naboo and also served as a senator for the Republic.

Other fans who commented on the growing thread also pointed out that the name Rey actually means "King" in Spanish which also coincides with "Star Wars'" knack for obvious names that are just hiding in plain sight. For example, Darth Vader is loosely translated as Darth Father from Dutch to English. While this may be a case of looking too much into everything from the popular series, the coincidence is definitely fun to speculate at.

At this point, it is safe to say that those who know the secret to Rey's lineage are being restricted by non-disclosure contracts and viewers will just have to wait for and see the reveal. After all, Ridley actually hinted that it might not be that long before the secret is out as chances are that the mystery will finally be addressed in "Episode VIII" instead of stretching it out until "Star Wars: Episode IX."

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" is set to blast through cinemas on Dec. 15, 2017.
