Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor) is definitely one of the most popular characters in the "Star Wars" saga, so how come he doesn't have a spin-off film like Han Solo (Harrison Ford and Alden Ehrenreich)? Lucasfilm knows that fans want to see more of Obi-Wan, so what are they waiting for?

Entertainment Weekly reporter Anthony Breznican may have the answer to that question. He was a guest on Rebel Force Radio (via StarWarsNewsNet) recently and he had some interesting things to say about why Lucasfilm hasn't developed an Obi-Wan standalone film.

"I have heard rumors that the one reason they haven't moved sooner on Obi-Wan is that they're not done with Obi-Wan quite yet... in the Saga films. So I wouldn't be surprised to see an Obi-Wan thing happen beyond Episode IX," he said. "I think that they'll probably be some reference to Obi-Wan in the Saga films, and his connection to whatever characters he happens to have a connection with."

Breznican went on to say that he believes Rey (Daisy Ridley) might be related to Obi-Wan in some way. That's quite possible, and fans have been talking about that since they found out Rey was Force sensitive. He also said that perhaps McGregor might return to play the character if they decided to make a spin-off film.

McGregor also believed that there was a story to tell between the end of "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope." And he said he is willing to reprise his role as Obi-Wan if a spin-off is made. So, he's certainly on board with the idea.

Will fans see Obi-Wan in a flashback or as a Force ghost in "Star Wars: Episode VIII"?

Breznican may be a reliable source, but readers are advised to everything with a grain of salt until the rumor is confirmed by the studio.

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" is set to premiere on Dec. 15, 2017.
