Dern is speculated to play the role of a commanding officer working for the Resistance who fills in for General Leia after she is badly injured.

After General Leia sustains serious injuries in "Star Wars: Episode VIII," Dern's character tells Rey and the band of heroes that they are the last of the Resistance fighting off the First Order.

While she was chosen to take over for Leia, the senior officer was nowhere near forthcoming with her. Latino Review says Dern's character was designed as a rival of General Leia in "Star Wars: Episode VIII."

Dern's character represents the opposite of what Leia advocates in terms of the regulatory system in the galaxy. Leia is a said to be one of the "Populists" who are all for autonomy and individual rights to planets.

Her rival, as fans might expect, believes that the whole galaxy should function under one strong government body, making her one of the so-called "Centrists" in "Star Wars: Episode VIII."

Dern's character also allegedly bat heads with Poe Dameron. At one point in "Star Wars: Episode VIII," the pilot allegedly infuriates the high-ranking officer after committing mutiny against her crew.

While the heroes and Dern's character are fighting on the same side, it does not look like they will be working together harmoniously. She might even be a problem for the Resistance as well.

Meanwhile, these details also have many worried about General Leia's fate in "Star Wars: Episode VIII."

The love of her life, Han Solo, has already met his demise in "The Force Awakens" in the hands of their son, which means that no one is safe now, even Leia.

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" will be released Dec. 15, 2017.
