'Star Wars: Episode VIII' spoilers: Mark Hamill spills spoilers regarding Luke Skywalker

Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker Lucasfilm

Mark Hamill is expected to have a much bigger role in "Star Wars: Episode VIII" than in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." However, according to a report from Den of Geek, Hamill may have hinted that his character Luke Skywalker might not make it and could be killed off during the film.

According to the report, Hamill stated "I finish Episode VIII, and then I'm out of work" during an event in London. As stated in a report from Games Radar, this implies that his character might be killed during the film, similar to how Han Solo (Harrison Ford) died during "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

This is not the case, however, as Hamill himself clarified what he meant. As reported by Collider, Hamill posted via Twitter that he meant he was out of work because the movie's production was ending. His previous statement merely meant he was done filming his scenes for the movie but not for the franchise in general.

Luke Skywalker only appeared at the very end of "The Force Awakens" and it is rumored that he will be training Rey (Daisy Ridley) in the next film, similar to how he was trained by Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) and Yoda (Frank Oz). His history with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey is also speculated to be revealed.

Even if Skywalker is killed in the next film, fans speculate he may still appear in "Star Wars: Episode IX" as a Force Ghost, similar to how Obi-Wan and Yoda appeared after their characters had died. If this proves true then Hamill may have accidentally said the truth to the London crowd and is merely hiding it given he may still return as a ghost.

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" will be released in theaters on Dec. 15 2017. As fans await for the film, a spin-off titled "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will be released this Dec. 16.
