'Star Wars: Episode 8' spoilers, plot news: New flashback and Yoda's return rumored

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" is still in production and yet very little is known about the film due to the high level of secrecy that Disney and Lucasfilm practice. However, according to a report from Cinema Blend, there are rumors surfacing of Yoda making a return in the film.

According to the report, the rumors initially sparked when a Redditor revealed they had attended the Star Wars Celebration in London. While there this Redditor learned from one of the crew members on the film that they were working on bringing Yoda into the film.

For fans of the franchise, this would make sense given that powerful Jedi characters such as Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor/Alec Guiness) are capable of coming back after their death as Force ghosts. As a Force ghost Yoda may continue to give advice to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) or Rey (Daisy Ridley).

There is another rumor coming from Making Star Wars that "Episode VIII" is going to include a flashback revisiting a scene teased in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." According to the report, there is a flashback focusing on Luke, R2-D2, Rey and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). There are also multiple adolescent children in the scene.

It is hinted that this scene is the event where Kylo Ren, originally named Ben Solo, turns against Luke and joins the Dark Side of the Force. He, along with his fellow Knights of the Ren, murder the children. It is hinted in "The Force Awakens" that Luke then sent Rey off to the planet Jakku to ensure Kylo Ren wouldn't be able to harm her.

This sequence may also explain why Rey got her first vision when she held Luke Skywalker's lightsaber.

Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to confirm or deny any of the aforementioned rumors.

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" will release on Dec. 15, 2017.
