A disturbance in the force has come in the form of thousands of disappointed "Star Wars" fans, as they file a petition to Disney to exclude "Episode VIII: The Last Jedi" from the franchise canon.

At the time of writing, the said petition to erase "The Last Jedi" from the annals of the official "Star Wars" timeline has gained much traction, where 50,000 people have signed up in support. What is even more impressive with the conviction of said fans is that the petition only began six days ago. The said request was reportedly headed by someone named Henry Walsh.

Walsh argued that the latest movie ruined the legacy of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), and this is somewhat troublesome since "Star Wars" has, thus far, always been about two things only, the Jedi and Luke. Walsh was also angered by what Disney did, which is to disregard approximately 260 novels spanning three decades of lore concerning the character.

The disgruntled fan then went on to state on behalf of all the "Star Wars" fans that Disney ruined the very reason they liked the franchise with the story and plot of "The Last Jedi." Hence, he started the petition, where Walsh sees the exclusion of "The Last Jedi" from the "Star Wars" canon as the only way to fix the damage they did to the Jedi Order and Luke.

That, however, did not seem to be enough, as Walsh has even demanded that Disney delay the production of "Episode IX" and remake "Episode VIII," a move that could cost millions, if not billions, of dollars just to redeem the legacy of Luke. As scandalous as his demands sound, it seems that a lot of other "Star Wars" fans share the same sentiment as Walsh, and they even voiced out their criticism toward "The Last Jedi," expressing that the franchise is now destroying their heroes.

Neither Disney/Lucasfilm nor director Rian Johnson have commented on the issue yet. Whether this fan outrage is connected to the low audience score of "The Last Jedi" on Rotten Tomatoes is unknown, but the possibility is not that remote.
