Making Star Wars recently posted images of the first wave of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Black Series figurines, courtesy of Facebook and YouTube user The Ultimate Toy Collector. One tidbit on the back of the BB-8 figure reveals that the droid belongs to Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and not Rey (Daisy Ridley).

As pointed out by a report from Screen Rant, all of the promotional trailers and images thus far show Rey and BB-8 together with no hint that the latter belongs to Dameron, an X-Wing fighter pilot for the Resistance. They even come together in the aforementioned toy package.

According to the report, this tidbit about BB-8 sheds light on previous rumors from Making Star Wars

A previous rumor stated that a Jakku resident named Nakka comes across Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) old lightsaber, which turns out to be the key to opening an ancient Sith tomb. Nakka contacts the Resistance for help and Poe Dameron arrives to retrieve the lightsaber but discovers he was followed by The First Order.

In order to hide the lightsaber, he keeps it inside BB-8. Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and his squad of Stormtroopers set the villages on fire looking for the lightsaber while BB-8 comes across Rey. An image that seems to support this train of events is a shot of Rey purchasing BB-8 from a Jakku local although the details for the transaction were not revealed.

The rumor persists until Disney or LucasFilm confirms that this is indeed the opening sequence of the film, which is largely reminiscent of how "Star Wars: A New Hope" opens. "A New Hope" also opens on a desert planet with a droid — R2-D2 — carrying something that the Empire wants and is eventually picked up by Luke Skywalker.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters nationwide on Dec. 18.
