Television star Sterling K. Brown just made history during the 75th Golden Globe Awards. Brown is the first black actor to win the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a television series -- Drama.

Brown won the award with his performance in NBC's television series "This Is Us" as Randall Pearson. The 41-year-old actor was up against Jason Bateman of "Ozark," Freddie Highmore of "The Good Doctor," Bob Odenkirk of "Better Call Saul," and Liev Schreiber of "Ray Donovan."

His first word after accepting the award was "Oprah" (Oprah Winfrey), who was sitting in front of her with the audience. Brown then thanked his family and co-actors on the show. He then took the opportunity to show his appreciation to "This Is Us" creator Dan Fogelman. "I also want to thank Dan Fogelman. Now Dan Fogelman, throughout the majority of my career, I have benefited from colorblind casting, which means, you know what, hey, let's throw a brother in this role. Right? It's always really cool. But Dan Fogelman, you wrote a role for a black man that could only be played by a black man," he said.

He then continued on thanking Fogelman for giving him an amazing role in the series. "What I appreciate so much about this is that I'm being seen for who I am and being appreciated for who I am. And it makes it that much more difficult to dismiss me, or dismiss anybody who looks like me," he added.

Many people including fellow actors, movie critics, and publications said Brown's award was well deserved.

"This Is Us" was also nominated for Best Drama Television Series, and Chrissy Metz for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

The series is still in the middle of season 2 and is already generating great reviews from movie experts. The show got an impressive score rating of 91 percent from Rotten Tomatoes and 8.8 out of 10 score from IMDb.
