'Street Fighter V' news: Capcom addresses concerns about lack of single-player content

"Street Fighter V" launched this past February, but while its gameplay was praised, the game itself was heavily criticized due to the lack of content for single-player mode, to the point where there is no one-player arcade mode. Speaking to publication Game Informer (via Gamespot), executive producer Yoshinori Ono explained that Capcom is working on remedying the issue.

"I think it's safe to say that we underestimated the popularity of some of the single-player features," Ono explained in the report. "That said, we are excited about the two all-new single-player modes - character story and survival - and we have plans to continue to refine and expand onto those experiences."

Unfortunately, he did not reveal when new single-player content will be released.

He continued to point out that the game was not rushed just to get "Street Fighter V" included in the Capcom Pro Tour, although this was a major factor. However, by focusing solely on the competitive crowd, Capcom has excluded the rest of the gaming community, particularly the casual group which only play fighting games locally, with friends.

According to Ono, the company was aware that delaying the game's launch to give it more single-player content would have allowed the game to get higher praises from the casual crowd who do not play competitively.

Ono later explained that he likened "Street Fighter V" to a marathon instead of a sprint, indicating that future updates will continue to be released, ensuring that the game will become more polished and filled with more content as the months go by. In regards to this, Ono did explain that the servers will be polished and that there will be a system to penalize gamers who rage-quit out of a match.

Once all these fixes have been integrated into the game, Ono guarantees that players will have a much smoother online experience with "Street Fighter V."
