After Tom Hardy withdrew from starring as Rick Flag in the upcoming 2016 American superhero movie titled "Suicide Squad," Warner Bros. was having a difficult time looking for his replacement. The American media company is now vetting Joel Kinnaman to replace Hardy as Amanda Waller's second in command and star as Rick Flag in the upcoming movie.

Joel Kinnaman starred in the 2014 science fiction film "RoboCop," and while critics garbed the remake as not being able to surpass the previous movie that was released in 1987, the film was still mildly successful in financial terms, which is one of the core reasons why Warner Bros. is targeting Kinnaman. According to Hollywood Reporter, the actor is currently in talks with the media company so nothing has been officially confirmed by either parties.

If Kinnaman does get selected to play the part of Rick Flag, then he will be joining the remainder of the Suicide Squad, which includes.

  • Will Smith as Deadshot
  • Jared Leto as Joker
  • Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn
  • Jai Courtney as Boomerang
  • Cara Delevingne as Enchantress

Viola Davis is rumored to be playing Amanda Waller and it has been speculated that Jesse Eisenberg will be appearing as Lex Luthor. Eisenberg will be appearing in the 2016 blockbuster "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice," and it looks like the actor's role will be one of the reasons why Waller assembles the squad in the first place.

While the plot details of the film have not been confirmed, it appears that Lex Luthor will be involved in superhuman trafficking, which will allow him to profit greatly from the illegal venture. His activities catch the eye of Amanda Waller, who dispatches the Suicide Squad in order to put an end to his schemes. If Joel Kinnaman will be confirmed as Rick Flag, then Warner Bros. will be one step closer to overcoming their casting hurdle.

Suicide Squad is expected to hit theatres on Aug. 5, 2016.
