"Suicide Squad" is gaining a lot of steam, particularly due to its choice of David Ayer to helm the project and the stellar cast that has so far been confirmed. According to Latino Review, Jackie Earle Haley may also play a role in the film as The Thinker.

Latino Review's El Mayimbre announced via Twitter:

"Another #HOT #SUICIDESQUAD #RUMOR For the character of THE THINKER I'm hearing Jackie Earle Haley's name being tossed around. Remember him as #RORSCHACH in #THEWATCHMEN? Take with grain of salt until otherwise confirmed but found it interesting nonetheless."

Haley is most notably known for his portrayal of Rorschach/ Walter Kovacs in the Zack Snyder film "Watchmen." He also played Freddy Krueger in the 2010 remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" although the film was not well received by critics and fans.

While neither Haley nor Warner Bros. has confirmed the rumor, many speculate that there is a chance the character could be in the film due to the actor's past working experience with Snyder who is producing "Suicide Squad."

The Thinker first appeared in DC comics back in 1943 as a villain for the Flash. He would later appear as a primary villain against Batman when he joins the Suicide Squad, a group of criminals hired by the U.S. Government for black ops.

There have been different characters to take on the mantle of the Thinker but the most popular is Clifford DeVoe, a genius whose powerful brain drains his body of its life and energy. In more recent comic issues, he even subverted the Suicide Squad by impersonating Amanda Waller.

"Suicide Squad" is set for release on Aug. 5, 2016. It will be directed by David Ayer, best known for "End of Watch" and "Training Days," and will star Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, and Viola Davis.
