'Suits' season 5 finale episode recap: Harvey leaves, Mike accused of conspiracy to commit fraud

The season 5 summer finale of "Suits" was full of flashbacks, which revealed that what happened in Harvey's, Mike's, and Jessica's past fully explains their actions in the present.

Harvey was torn whether to leave the company so that Jessica would be saved. He considers the company his family, and leaving was going to be very difficult for him. In his flashbacks, it was revealed that he caught his mother cheating on his father, and he told his father about it. This resulted to his mother leaving and his father becoming withdrawn. Since then, Harvey had always blamed himself for breaking up his family. He knew that if Jessica stayed in the company, then things would stay the same and in a way, he would prevent his other family from splitting up. So Harvey made the ultimate sacrifice — he resigned from his position so that Jessica would stay on.

As for Jessica, it became clear that she had sacrificed so much for the company, and her flashbacks saw the end of her marriage as her husband divorced her for putting her work first. When Harvey turned up at the meeting to show his letter from Forstman terminating his relationship with Hardman, the vote for Jessica to stay was overwhelming. Jessica asked him to stay, but Harvey knew he had to leave for her sake.

Mike had always feared that people are going to find out that he had been practicing law without a degree and that he never went to Harvard. In his flashbacks, he was seen talking to a priest, Father Walker, and it was revealed that Mike lost his parents when he was very young. It became clear that he didn't want to tell the truth because if he did, he feared that he would lose his fiancée Rachel. The people who mattered to him have left him before, and he didn't want Rachel to leave him, too. The priest told him to be honest with his fiancée, and in the end, Mike handed in his resignation to Harvey. But a fresh start appears to be impossible for Mike as the police arrived to arrest him for conspiracy to commit fraud.

"Suits" season 5 is slated to return this winter on USA Network.
